About Stephensburg Wildlife Management Area

Stephensburg Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is located in Hardin County, Kentucky, encompassing a variety of forest and field habitats that support a rich diversity of wildlife species. The area covers an expansive tract dominated by mixed hardwoods and acres of managed open areas, providing excellent conditions for wildlife such as white-tailed deer, wild turkey, small game, and waterfowl. The WMA was established to promote conservation and provide public access for hunting, fishing, and wildlife watching. Visitors can experience a combination of lightly developed trails and forest roads, ideal for hunting seasons and casual hiking. The area plays a critical role in habitat management, with controlled burns and timber harvests helping maintain healthy ecosystems. Stephensburg WMA offers a tranquil outdoor experience with opportunities for birding, hiking, and seasonal deer and turkey hunting. It is managed by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources to balance recreational use with habitat conservation. Although facilities are minimal and camping is generally not provided directly on the WMA, visitors can explore nearby state and local campgrounds. The WMA attracts hunters and nature enthusiasts looking for quiet, less crowded spaces close to the urban centers of Elizabethtown and Louisville.
